Quite Possibly the Most Ignored of All Christ's Commands

Now I beseech you, brethren, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

How should Christians take concrete steps to return to obedience to Christ's command? What would our part be in fulfilling Christ's prayer in John 17 that His followers be one, with thousands of Christian denominations continually splintering since the Protestant Reformation, along with as many varying interpretations of the Scriptures? Where is Christ's Church that has been present since Christ ascended to heaven and gave His apostles the authority to spread His Gospel and to baptize in His name? Where is Christ's Church, named the "pillar and foundation of truth" in 1 Timothy 3:15, which brought forth and canonized the New Testament Scriptures, upon which so many base their individual interpretations of what Christ intended His Church to be? I suggest that we return to a study of the early Church fathers to see what and where we need to be.

i don't agree with your post at all, and frankly don't see how i could fellowship with someone who holds your perspective!

I'm not so sure, Mr. Barncord, that our study of the church fathers would result in any fewer interpretations than has our study of the scriptures.

Dear J. Barncord,

Thank you for what you have written. I agree - let's get back to the basics of what has been taught from the early Church fathers - 1st and 2nd century. I have held the unpopular belief that Jesus has One Bride. Jews and Gentiles stemming from The Vine. One Vine. One Bride. I say "unpopular" because my conclusion is opposed to a pre-tribulation rapture view. This is not an invitation to argue with anyone. Please, I beg that no one comes back with arguments.... and corrective comments..... and straight up rudeness.... My purpose is unity in fundamental truth - which is what it appears J. Barncord is proposing. Have you visited the website voiceofelijah.org? Interesting. I knew the Scoefield Reference was wrong from the very beginning when I read how it added to the Creation account... making it evolutionary. Whoa! Anyway, I haven't read all of the materials on that site. I just found it interesting in your context here about knowing what the early church fathers taught. FABULOUS ENDEAVOR! TRUTH and UNITY? What a concept! Sounds like Jesus praying for us to be One with Him and He is One with the Father! :o)
